Solar buyers are making a large long-term investment, and they usually compare several installers. An honest, detailed quotation can stand out, especially when other companies make vague promises about savings.
Start with the site and usage
Check electricity bills, roof area and condition, direction, shading and the structure. If you size a system without those, you're guessing. Say what data your design was based on.
Specify the system
List the following:
- System size in kW
- Panel brand, model, wattage and quantity
- Inverter type, brand and capacity
- Battery capacity and type, if included
- Mounting structure and protection devices
- Cabling and earthing
Listing specifics lets a client compare quotes fairly, rather than judging on price per kW alone.
Be careful with savings claims
Present expected generation as an estimate, and state its assumptions. Weather, shading, tariffs and usage all affect the result, so avoid guarantees you can't keep:
"Estimated generation is based on typical conditions and isn't guaranteed."
Make this quotation on your phone. Add your company once, then create and share a PDF, even without internet.

Show who handles approvals
Grid connection, net metering where available, permits and inspections can take time and money. State who applies, who pays the fees, and that approval timing is outside your control.
Separate the warranties
Clients need these listed separately:
- Panel product and performance warranty
- Inverter warranty
- Battery warranty
- Your workmanship warranty
State who handles a claim, and whether labour is included.
Payment and maintenance
Stage payments might be tied to equipment delivery, installation and commissioning. Also offer a maintenance option covering cleaning and inspection. Finish with handover documents: a system diagram, warranty papers and monitoring setup.
