Plumbing work ranges from a quick tap replacement to complete pipework in a new building. The two need different approaches, and leak repairs are hard to price without opening something up.
Fixed price or time and materials
Use a fixed price for clearly defined jobs: replacing a tap, fitting a toilet, or installing a water heater. Use time and materials when the problem isn't yet known, like tracing a hidden leak, and give a likely range and a limit: "We will contact you before exceeding Rs 10,000."
Itemise installations
For bathrooms and new builds, list these separately:
- Supply and drainage pipework, with type and size
- Each fixture, and who supplies it
- Water tank, pump or heater connections
- Pressure testing
Fixture supply causes confusion. Say clearly whether the client or you will buy the basin, shower or taps. If they supply them, you may want to exclude warranty on those parts.

Allow for access and damage
Pipes are often behind tiles. Include wording such as:
"Breaking and restoring tiles or walls is not included unless listed. Matching existing tiles cannot be guaranteed."
That single sentence can save a dispute over a bathroom wall.
Call-outs and emergencies
Be upfront about your call-out fee, and any out-of-hours rate. A client with water on the floor will accept a clear fee far more readily than a surprise on the final bill.
After the job
Mention what's covered by your warranty, and recommend maintenance such as tank cleaning. A helpful reminder can turn a one-time repair into a repeat client.
