Landscaping involves living materials, the weather and ground conditions you can't fully see. Clear wording around plants, seasons and aftercare keeps a beautiful project from turning into a dispute.
Assess the site
Before pricing, check:
- Size of the area and access for materials
- Soil quality, drainage and slopes
- Sun and shade
- Existing plants, trees and things to remove
- Water source and underground services
Itemise the work
List soil preparation, removals, paving, turf, plants (with species, size and quantity), irrigation, lighting and disposal of waste separately. The plant size matters a lot: a young sapling and a mature specimen differ greatly in price.
Plant guarantees
Clients often expect all plants to thrive. State what you cover:
"Plants are guaranteed for 30 days from planting, provided they're watered as advised. Damage from pests, weather or lack of care isn't covered."
Choose a period you're comfortable with, or state clearly if there isn't a guarantee.

Plan around seasons
Some planting works only at certain times of year, and rain delays digging. Add: "Timing may depend on weather and seasonal plant availability."
Maintenance
Offer a separate maintenance quotation with visit frequency and tasks such as mowing, pruning, weeding and feeding. Recurring work smooths out seasonal income and helps new planting survive.
Give options
Clients often begin with more ideas than budget. Offer a phased plan: start with paving and soil this year, then planting next season. They stay within budget, and you stay in the picture for future work.
